173. Kris Kristofferson wrote “Sunday Morning Coming Down” when he was living in a rundown flat in Nashville and working as a janitor for Columbia Records. Kris is a Rhodes Scholar, former Army captain and in the hope of becoming a songwriter he landed a helicopter on Johnny Cash’s lawn and handed him a tape of this song which ended up being a #1 hit for Cash and launched Kristofferson’s career as a singer/songwriter. The song is about a lonely Sunday morning walk while coming down from a Saturday night hangover.
