Born to be Wild

57. Although The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame considers “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf one of the songs that shaped Rock and Roll, they have failed to induct the band, WTF. The song was the first to introduce the term “Heavy Metal” (a phrase appropriated from the William Burroughs’ novel The Soft Machine) into the rock lexicon and came to describe the hard rock genre. So how is it that a band that defined a genre not been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I think the Rock Hall has lost their mission, and I have lost my faith in the Rock Hall. It’s not because I object to those that have been nominated, as that I am opposed to those that still have not: Joe Cocker, Jethro Tull, George Thorogood, Grand Funk Railroad, Derek and the Dominoes, Steppenwolf and others. Yet, ABBA and Stevie Nicks for her solo career have been inducted. The Rock Hall needs to put someone on the committee that actually experienced rock and roll before 1970.
