Born in the USA

192. “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen is one of the most misinterpreted songs of all times. While it is most often thought of as a patriotic anthem, it is actually a song critical of the US involvement in the war in Southeast Asia, and of the way in which vets were treated after their return. The song was inspired after Springsteen met Ron Kovic, author of “Born On The 4th of July”. After his return, Kovic was confined to a wheelchair and became a leader of the Viet Nam Veterans Against War Movement.
